Five years after this book was published, it's still packed with useful information for people who work with the Web. If you're really interested in accessibility compliance, I think this book provides plenty of meat. If you want to get a clearer picture of why you should design for accessibility and when, read this book. That is the real value it provides.That said, it is sorely in need of an update.When Web Accessibility was published, Internet Explorer 7 had not yet been released, nor had Firefox 2. Netscape was still hanging around, and Gmail was still in beta. XHTML 2.0 was supposed to herald a golden age of Web standards.All that seems like centuries ago in the timeline of the Internet, and portions of this book provide examples of the best practices and techniques from that time. Having come through that era of Web development and emerged on the other side, I can say that some of the techniques might still be useful; most are not. And that's where, today, with no new edition of this book available (and no clear successor), I have to dock it at least one star. The outdated code samples put an unnecessary burden on today's reader to know enough about past techniques to know when to reject them, and enough about today's best practices to know what has replaced them.

There are a number of books on the topic of accessibility and many focus on web accessibility or if not, dedicate many pages to the topic. Accessibility is often, as in this book explained in terms of why it should be done and provides overviews of technology closely tied to the reasons for accessibility. The ties to usability in general are secondary. Yet, for the programmer and designer, there comes that point in wading through all those pages where there is a need to know the methods and practices. In this book, one should be willing to skim the chapters first to become aware of where this break occurs, the break between exploring and exposing reasons and actually digging into the meat of methods and practices. Be forgiving, in that no book on this topic can cover all the bases. In particular, to evaluate for example, a reader or some other prosthetic or assistive device, no general book on accessibility is apparently going to cut it. The nice thing is that this book like others on accessibility, does provide web references to sources of info and expounded detail on those devices and other sources of info that the book cannot practically go into detail to cover. So, the book is a good reference, if one does not just read it cover to cover and chuck it on a shelf. The trick in these books is to actually make an exercise of looking up those references and researching the material provided by those sites.Accessibility is such a diverse and important topic, that one actually should not rely on any single book. This is a good book, but supplement it with a couple others to get contrasting viewpoints and info covered that this book lacks. Check out all the references. Be willing to dig and dig and dig and try out the methods and practices. It has been notable to me after reading through about four different books on Accessibility that one is not enough. If one starts with this book, absorb the material, but radiate outward; check out the referenced materials and read some additional books, whether those compliment or expound upon the valuable material you'll find in this one. Dig into some other related topic books, like Human Factors, HCI and books regarding Usability, User Interfaces and User Experience. The topic of accessibility really is much larger than one might expect. Surely it larger than just coding alt text into web pages.This book and others are valuable sources, but if one exposes themselves to several concurrently, the variation of viewpoints, methods and practices will quickly become evident.Get the big picture. This book is a great reference source, but it is recommended to supplement it, supplement it and engage in practicing what it and other books preach.

Excellent resource for ADA compliance. The requirements for ADA are so complicated that without a book like this it would be difficult if not impossible to understand what is compliant and what is not.

I brought this used. This was written in 2006 so the tech has changed but I would get it to help get started thinking about what you need to be putting into practice to make your website more accessible. It's a good barebones reference and then you can head over to W3schools.com and W3.org for updates on HTML5 and CSS.

This text does cover the basics of starting the voyage into FL Studio. I discovered after this arrived that the cost through Amazon is 20% more that through the publisher's site. I'm sure that some might think that the better text would be FL Studio Bible published via Image-Line through Lulu. However, it is more of a detailed technical user manual, whereas this is laid out as a introductory tutorial. It would be great is someone would combine the tutorial aspects of this type of text with using Image-Line effects and accompanying products (e.g., Harmor, Harmless, Reverb, Newtone, etc.,) to create a handful of different musical compositions, including mixing and mastering those songs to completion. That would be awesome! Maybe I should start, huh?!

If you have FL Studio, you need to get this book. It has everything here, well thought out and easy to access.

OK...This is *not* a "cookbook". A "cookbook" generally assumes that the user has the basic "cooking skills" under their belt and demonstrates how to create tasty new dishes using those skills and the ingredients at hand. Refer to any number of O'Reilly Press 'cookbooks' on various topics (e.g., PhP Cookbook, Raspberry Pi Cookbook, etc.) to understand the difference in content and context of this book and a true 'cookbook'. Rather, this book is an introduction to FL Studio. In fact, it should be retitled as such. As an intro book, its good. In fact, I wish I'd had this book when I started using FL Studio. It would have cut a year off my learning curve (unfortunately, music production is only a weekend hobby due to my 'real life' profession. So, if you're looking for a solid intro to FL Studio, this book is a solid starting place. I can't recommend this to anyone with moderate experience or higher.BOTTOM LINE: Not a cookbook. Should be titled "FL Studio 101" . Solid start block for the FL Studio newbie. Not much content for anyone using FL Studio for more than a few months.

This book has so much Knowledge I wish it had follow up editions! FL Studio can be intimidating to people who are not that familiar with the software. This is the reason for me purchasing this book! I will go back through it to really get a better understanding. Thanks for a great book

While the story does introduce the animals of the Chinese zodiac, it does not teach anything about each animal's characteristics. The story has little to engage the reader and turns into more of a list than a story. I would not recommend it. In addition, the book I ordered came damaged and was not fit for use.

I enjoyed this memoir very much. It was a bit different than the foster care stories but an important one- the story of a mother with postpartum depression.Cathy tries to help this woman but various circumstances make this difficult including her own reluctance to intrude.The three children cared for as respite placements are a reminder that CG is an experienced foster carer, but I feel the stories were a little off-topic of the main story. I think a collection of respite stories would make another good book ! I enjoyed The Silent Cry but am not sure why it is advertised as 'some stories cannot have happy endings." I like Cathy Glass's books very much and hope some new ones come out soon- I like the content, subject matter and her colloquial writing style, and the educational slant on the foster care system or a social/medical issue such as written about here

A mixed story of children Cathy fostered during the time Laura, the afflicted new mother, was deteriorating then finally treated. During Laura's deterioration into worsening postpartum depression which ended in full postpartum psychosis, Laura's classic symptoms are revealed. These are clarified when Cathy looks up information about postpartum depression and finds that there is the additional disorder o psychosis. Despite Cathy's urging throughout, the family refuses to take Laura to a doctor because they believed mental illness was something to b ashamed of, therefore kept secret. The story of how Laura's family were finally forced to take her to the doctor and the outstanding treatment she received is an example of how this terrible disease should be treated.

Cathy writes about the children that she fosters but this book also “postpartum depression”, which to me is very important. After I gave birth to my son 22 years ago, I did not want to touch him or even look at him. However, my husband had to work and I was left alone with my new baby so I didn’t have a choice but to tend to him. In addition, I had to force myself even with the strong feeling of not liking my own son because on the back of my mind, it was wrong and evil to not want your own child, let alone your first child. I did not talk about me feelings with anyone thinking that I will be chastised if I do. Years later, postpartum depression was a topic on Oprah. That’s when I realized that I wasn’t crazy or evil and that it was normal. We came along way about treating "postpartum depression" just like Cathy mentioned in this book and I think we should talk about it more so people will understand that this is normal and that every “baby blue” is different. I wish it is not considered a “mental health” issue because I believe that this is why most women do not want to come forward because they don’t want to be branded with it, which is the same reason why Laura didn’t want to go see a doctor. I’m glad Laura she did eventually. This is a wonderful story.

I'm amazed that Cathy is capable of such difficult work, but I deeply admire her efforts, which seem to do so much good for children who so desperately need her help. Again, thank you for all your good work, Cathy. I think I've just about worked my way through everything currently in Amazon. You're going to have to slow down! Can't keep up with your prolific writing, but really will make the effort. There's a deal to learn, and I recommend Ms Glass' books to everyone.

This is my least favorite book by Cathy Glass. I wanted to focus on Laura's story, but the author wrote about Shelley and Samson as well. It was a bore. Shelley and Samson's stories were uninteresting and lacked depth.

Cathy Glass is a masterful writer, who is able to present the child and family in crisis in such a way that they are both dignified and not demonized. As a Foster Parent of over 25 years she presents the realities of the world of the the Social Service and Foster Care System, and at the same time emphasizes the flaws in the system (too much red tape, overworked Social Workers and thereby Foster Parents that are not monitored as well as they need to be).The only aspect of her books I find a bit unsettling, is that you can find out how her past Foster Children are doing , which is only acceptable as long as the individuals have consented, otherwise I would feel their abilities to move on to normal,productive lives could be hindered.

I love Cathy Glass books have read everyone, this book was a lot different to her others as wasn't so much about fostering but still enjoyed it

I loved the book, but when I also purchased parts 2 and 3, I was very disappointed to discover that together parts 2 and 3 aren't new information. Why would part 2 be the first half of part 1 and part 3 be the second half? I purchased all three parts expecting to have a long pleasant read only to discover that now I have two copies of the same book and I wasted money . I am a very disappointed customer! Beware buyers, you don't need to purchase parts 2 and 3.

I bought this book for groundwater and contaminant transport graduate class. I have enjoyed this text as it had good examples and descriptions for the various sections in the text. Additionally, the figures are helpful and relevant. This text has expanded my understanding of hydrogeology and has been an enjoyable read. Also, the Exercises in the book are practical real world wise and relevant to the text content. I only wish I had gotten it in hardback as I can be hard on paperback covers over many years of use.

I've been using this book for a graduate class at WSU. The book is helpful, but written with limited field imput and a lot of theory, which can be difficult to digest. I often find myself refering to Fetter's Applied Hydrogeology or the web to figure out what the authors are trying to say.

An excellent discussion of Dupuit's Law.

The bible for hydrogeology

Good coverage of complex subject but mathematical treatment is challenging. The text is now somewhat dated and references to the technical literature need to be updated.

Product was as described. It would have nice to know that the book did not include the cd, but I ended up not needing it anyway. Good transaction.

This book was required for a Groundwater Contaminant Transport class I'm taking. It is very thorough in it's scope and gives a lot of details overall. My complaint about it is that it is very inconsistent with its notation of equations, etc. ie: it will be talking about the same thing but using different notations and it seems they are different concepts. This book is written from a geologist perspective and not so much an engineering perspective (what I am). It assumes an in depth understanding of geochemistry. One good thing is it has some of the answers in the back.

This book is an incredible reference for a wide array of hydrogeologic topics. Every hydrogeologist or environmental engineer would do well to have this book on his or her shelf.

This book has been an amazing reference for me. Not only does it speak about several different important icons, but it gives you a little bit of history on SEVERAL different designers and their stories in short. This book by no means is ALL inclusive, but for the everyday reader its sure to teach you a bit you didnt know. You may find yourself new designers you've never heard of , and learning facts about designers that you may not have already known about. This mini is quite a wonder and a great coffee table or office book. I leave it in my studio in the waiting area and people ALWAYS comment on how much they love it. GREAT buy on my end.... I'm so pleased !

Product was fine. But I gave it 4 stars because I was planning on using it as a coffee table book, but the color was more of a cream than white. Looked a bit worn out, wouldn't describe it as "excellent" as described by seller.

This is a flawless example of beautiful, mesmeric art. Not only does this book capture the ongoing development of fashion through the years, it presents the designers, photographers, makeup artists, and even fashion retailers who made these pieces come to life. Phaidon has always impressed me with the quality of their books, along with the meticulousness they put into choosing the perfect photos for their final product.

The book itself is fabulous. I love reading through it and all my guests love looking through the pictures when they're over. (I have it on my coffee table in my living room). However, I was a bit sad, and disappointed when the book arrived with the front and side cover paper ripped and some what stained. I did order this book used, because that was the only buying option available. But each description said the book was "good" or "acceptable". I guess, since I obviously haven't returned it that it is "acceptable" but I was looking forward to the book still being more presentable. I was also a little bummed that there was a price sticker stuck to the side of the book, right over the word "fashion" and since I obviously didn't want that to be exposed I was forced to as gently as possible, peal that sticker off which caused the paper to write a little.. Besides that.. I am happy with the book! But I would not buy this as a gift for someone.

I just love this book , its great for the beginner to advanced fashion lovers. I also as a designer have to say if you're a designer , stylist and blogger , this is a major must have.

The best coffee table decor item. This is so much better than the newer version!

This was a gift and it was perfect! Filled with glamorous images and all one expects from the title. Just right for the fashion addict!

Didn't come with this cover so I don't use it. Bad purchase
