DAN B. ALLENDER, Ph.D., is a professor of counseling at Western Seminary-Seattle. My Church is having a group in reading this book and, using study guide. I thought I would buy the study guide so I woundent have numerous papers everywhere. I really have enjoyed the book and, the study guide really helps put everything into perspective. The boon is over but, we are going to continue the group and, go over chapter by Chapter and, give our thoughts on what the author is saying to help all of us heal more and heal. If you are getting the book I would encourage you to get the Study Guide. Not sure if I will buy this item again but, maybe something else this seller has. I do recomend it though. Was a good buy.

I bought this book to try and deal with the unbearable pain when my husband and I separated. There are so many parts in this book that describe in detail what physically, mentally and spiritual causes us to feel so much pain. I bought the workbook as well and found it very helpful. It will remind you God is with you and to walk in faith that he will mend you.God bless.

This is not your typical fill-in-the-blank study guide. It sends me back to re-read chapters, to dive much deeper and explore areas I'd ignored when I first read the book. I'm studying it with my daughters, via phone, and highly recommend doing so with people who know and love you and can help reflect truth back to you.

Great guide for how to study and read the book by the same name. Will really have you dig deep with God as your guide. Amazon was one of the few places I could find this workbook for a reasonable price.

This study guide was a great companion to the book. It really challenged me to make it personal. I had to consider how Dan Allender's writing applied to my life personally, instead of just reading the book, thinking it was profound, but then not doing anything with it in my everyday life. Now I see tangible places I want to address in my life and ways to live more into the sorrow and the joy found on earth.

I had been hearing about this book for a while, but being from Afghanistan myself and growing up during this war I didn’t want to read a book that brings back all the horrible memories. I wasn’t ready and I waited. Finally, last week I decided that I am ready and I want to read this book. I have only finished the first book so far and it’s a beautiful story. The author has done a fantastic job. The book is super easy to read and understand. The story is of a young courageous girl who helps her family survive. This is the kind of book I would read with or to my daughter. It’s a book that shows how girls don’t need to wait for a Prince Charming to save the day. This story is proof that girls are strong, courageous, loving and kind. It proves that anyone can do anything and pull through hardships if they put their mind and heart to it. I recommend this book to anyone above the age of 8. I can’t wait to read the next 3 books.

Thoughts: I honestly can't walk two feet without being stopped and having this book recommended to me. This went on for about three years before I finally had enough of this and purchased the Breadwinner. And boy, am I glad I did. No one is more up for female rights than I am (I've probably written about a thousand female empowerment stories), and so this book instantly appealed to me. I loved I Am Malala, so hearing that this was in the same vein was immensely exciting.The Breadwinner is the kind of book that really anyone can read. Your age doesn't necessarily matter, since this book is written in a way that can transcend from eight to sixty year olds. But the writing wasn't what made this book impressive; the sheer character of Parvana herself, and the story she takes us along, is completely mindblowing. Sometimes, I had to stop myself and reread a section because it thrust me into disbelief. The things women had to go through under the rule of the Taliban - and STILL have to go through -.... it's just heartbreaking. This book serves not only to make us, as kids, aware of this difficult topic, but also spurs us to want to get involved. I was completely gripped the entire time while reading this book, and by the end of it, I was speechless. While, at some points, this is not the most engaging book per se, it is still a fascinating story that kids of all ages will enjoy.

I am considering teaching this book in a remedial English class. The great points about this book mainly are its readability and the fact that Ellis puts in enough detail germane to the action of the plot, but almost no extraneous description, or details for details sake. If you look into Deborah Ellis, she seems to be a woman of action, and has raised literal tons of money through charity organizations for Women's organizations in Afghanistan.The action is fairly quick, and I read it in one sitting. Your typical high school student will not complain as each chapter is short, and the pages turn quickly. You very early become endeared to Parvana, the protagonist through her interaction with her family members. As the book progresses you feel the pangs to continue.A well written book for young adults. Similar to The Kite Runner.

Eleven-year-old Parvana lives in Kabul, Afghanistan, under the Taliban, and this multicultural middle school book shows us what life is like when they're in power. She and her sisters can't go to school. They're not even supposed to go outside, and neither is their mother, unless accompanied by a man. Women and teenage girls must wear a burqa, which covers their entire body and face, except for the eyes.Parvana and her family used to live in a big house, but the daily bombing, which has gone on for years, has destroyed almost everything they owned. Now they live in one room. Her father supports them by reading and writing letters for uneducated people. Even this existence is threatened when the Taliban break in and arrest her father for the crime of having gone to school in England. "Afghanistan doesn't need your foreign ideas," they tell him as they drag him off to prison.Soon the family runs out of money and food, a desperate situation since Parvana, her mother, and her sisters can't be outside unless they're with a man. A neighbor woman comes up with an idea: Parvana can dress as a boy, because boys can come and go freely. She agrees, and wears the clothing of an older brother who died. Since she knows how to read, she earns money the same way her father did and becomes the family breadwinner.Then the family gets exciting news--Parvana's older sister receives a proposal of marriage from the son of old family friends. They live in north Afghanistan, where there are no Taliban. A journey is quickly planned, but Parvana can't go because the friends know she is a girl. Her family can't let her secret get back to Kabul.Parvana stays with the neighbor woman, but then bad news arrives: the Taliban have invaded the very city where Parvana's family went for the wedding. Now what will she do?This book was a fast and absorbing read. The writing style is simple but the story is so powerful I could hardly put it down, and the spirit and resilience of Parvana and her family were inspirational.Author Deborah Ellis visited Afghan refugee camps and talked with many girls like Parvana. She is donating the royalties from this book to Women for Women in Afghanistan, dedicated to improving the lives of women there. Read about current conditions in Afghanistan in this article.Reading level: 10 and up. Parvana, her mother, and her father receive beatings, but the description is minimal. The girl witnesses a public punishment where men convicted as thieves each have one hand chopped off. No gory details, but it is a shocking moment.

Inspiring, heartbreaking and gripping. Parvana's story brings a level of insight and humanity to the struggles of living under the Taliban, and Ellis's writing is clear enough that 5th grader could read it. I had only read it for a class assignment, but now I need to read the rest of the series!

Well written, middle-school story of a girl that is forced to dress as a boy in order to earn money for her family in Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban.Although the author is not from Afghanistan, she apparently interviewed many refugees, heard their stories, and wrote this, based on all those interviews. This is the first book in the series. Now, I will move on to the second, as I am curious to see what happens next.

Just took, and passed, 70-743. This book was helpful because it provides links to where more information can be found. TechNet is the ultimate source for all certification test prep... But I digress. The content of the book is limited. However, some critical concepts are covered better than others. For example, I was hit hard on IPAM and this book does not go deep enough on this topic. On the other hand, I was also hit hard on Nano Server. I felt this book adequately covered that topic. (But I still needed TechNet as well.)The reference book is just that; a guide on the topics covered in the exam and where more information can be found. However, I would love it if Microsoft published certification material and then produced certification exams based on that book. OR, if we could go to TechNet, look up a test number and read all about the topics for that exam. I don't think Microsoft is being fair on exam objectives versus viable study materials. Searching TechNet for specific test information is like finding a needle in a hay stack!

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!I recently completed my 2012 MCSA using William Panek's MCSA Windows Server 2012 R2 study guide, and was disappointed with it. It started out well, but by the 412 section, started leaving large gaps of information out. Regardless, it did provide lots of useful information and basic lab exercises.Due to my disappointment with the Panek 2012 guide, I decided to try this book out for my 2016 MCSA cert. This book is horrible. It provides many links to technet articles which you can find on your own. Information in the book is EXTREMELY sparse, with much of it basically just saying hey there is this thing out there, we wont tell you anything about it other than it exists, oh and here is a link that might explain it (you will have better luck finding your own technet links in many/most cases). Labs are almost non-existent, and those that exist are a total joke.I can say the Panek book would have been exponentially better without ever having seen it. If you need anything more than just to look at the changes between 2012 & 2016 (and it is crap for that), this book would only be good for starting fires with the paper it is made from. This book is Total garbage. It deserves a negative 5 star review. I will never again purchase another Microsoft study guide. This guide makes Panek's look like a dream come true.Side Note for anyone not aware: If you are using any study guide to pass your exam, you will probably fail (even if you can setup and configure every aspect of the environment in your sleep). They should however help you understand what you will be testing on, and get you familiar with the technology. After that, study up on the example exams (either pay for them or use one of the many free sites).

I thought the book was very mediocre. Getting this book you have to have an understanding of some of the technologies already, but it does a horrible job of at least summarizing or giving a quick refresher for the technology being discussed. For example, IPAM - it would have been nice to give some type of explanation about it, but it just jumps in and says, "this is how you do it."Would not recommend.

This book is an ok place to start to get an overview of the subject matter, but I don't think I could recommend it. Microsoft says that they test real world experience in these exams, but anyone who has tons of experience wouldn't need a book like this. So what's the point of publishing it?

I see that this book is getting 2 and 3 star reviews saying that it doesn't provide enough material. It is written based off of the categories Microsoft lists as the Skills Measured for the 70-743 certification. It is not in depth but does give a pretty good overview of the topics. This makes the book great for someone who is just looking for a refresher or something to get you started on studying for this cert. If you need more than this then you probably aren't ready to jump right into taking a certification test anyways. You should find a book that much more broadly covers Server 2016 and then come back to this book. Even then, expect to spend a lot of time on the forums, TechNet, YouTube, and hopefully working in your own home lab.In summary, thank goodness there is a book like this one that will just give an overview of the topics for this cert because one that covered it in depth would be thousands of pages long!

Book is okay. I got more value out of my practice tests from a 3rd party.

After reading through some of the content I expect it to be a good supplement to getting me prepared for the Server 2016 exam.

Five years after this book was published, it's still packed with useful information for people who work with the Web. If you're really interested in accessibility compliance, I think this book provides plenty of meat. If you want to get a clearer picture of why you should design for accessibility and when, read this book. That is the real value it provides.That said, it is sorely in need of an update.When Web Accessibility was published, Internet Explorer 7 had not yet been released, nor had Firefox 2. Netscape was still hanging around, and Gmail was still in beta. XHTML 2.0 was supposed to herald a golden age of Web standards.All that seems like centuries ago in the timeline of the Internet, and portions of this book provide examples of the best practices and techniques from that time. Having come through that era of Web development and emerged on the other side, I can say that some of the techniques might still be useful; most are not. And that's where, today, with no new edition of this book available (and no clear successor), I have to dock it at least one star. The outdated code samples put an unnecessary burden on today's reader to know enough about past techniques to know when to reject them, and enough about today's best practices to know what has replaced them.

There are a number of books on the topic of accessibility and many focus on web accessibility or if not, dedicate many pages to the topic. Accessibility is often, as in this book explained in terms of why it should be done and provides overviews of technology closely tied to the reasons for accessibility. The ties to usability in general are secondary. Yet, for the programmer and designer, there comes that point in wading through all those pages where there is a need to know the methods and practices. In this book, one should be willing to skim the chapters first to become aware of where this break occurs, the break between exploring and exposing reasons and actually digging into the meat of methods and practices. Be forgiving, in that no book on this topic can cover all the bases. In particular, to evaluate for example, a reader or some other prosthetic or assistive device, no general book on accessibility is apparently going to cut it. The nice thing is that this book like others on accessibility, does provide web references to sources of info and expounded detail on those devices and other sources of info that the book cannot practically go into detail to cover. So, the book is a good reference, if one does not just read it cover to cover and chuck it on a shelf. The trick in these books is to actually make an exercise of looking up those references and researching the material provided by those sites.Accessibility is such a diverse and important topic, that one actually should not rely on any single book. This is a good book, but supplement it with a couple others to get contrasting viewpoints and info covered that this book lacks. Check out all the references. Be willing to dig and dig and dig and try out the methods and practices. It has been notable to me after reading through about four different books on Accessibility that one is not enough. If one starts with this book, absorb the material, but radiate outward; check out the referenced materials and read some additional books, whether those compliment or expound upon the valuable material you'll find in this one. Dig into some other related topic books, like Human Factors, HCI and books regarding Usability, User Interfaces and User Experience. The topic of accessibility really is much larger than one might expect. Surely it larger than just coding alt text into web pages.This book and others are valuable sources, but if one exposes themselves to several concurrently, the variation of viewpoints, methods and practices will quickly become evident.Get the big picture. This text does cover the basics of starting the voyage into FL Studio. I discovered after this arrived that the cost through Amazon is 20% more that through the publisher's site. I'm sure that some might think that the better text would be FL Studio Bible published via Image-Line through Lulu. However, it is more of a detailed technical user manual, whereas this is laid out as a introductory tutorial. It would be great is someone would combine the tutorial aspects of this type of text with using Image-Line effects and accompanying products (e.g., Harmor, Harmless, Reverb, Newtone, etc.,) to create a handful of different musical compositions, including mixing and mastering those songs to completion. That would be awesome! Maybe I should start, huh?!

If you have FL Studio, you need to get this book. It has everything here, well thought out and easy to access.

Refer to any number of O'Reilly Press 'cookbooks' on various topics (e.g., PhP Cookbook, Raspberry Pi Cookbook, etc.) to understand the difference in content and context of this book and a true 'cookbook'. Rather, this book is an introduction to FL Studio. In fact, it should be retitled as such. As an intro book, its good. In fact, I wish I'd had this book when I started using FL Studio. It would have cut a year off my learning curve (unfortunately, music production is only a weekend hobby due to my 'real life' profession. So, if you're looking for a solid intro to FL Studio, this book is a solid starting place. I can't recommend this to anyone with moderate experience or higher.BOTTOM LINE: Not a cookbook. Should be titled "FL Studio 101" . Solid start block for the FL Studio newbie. Not much content for anyone using FL Studio for more than a few months.

This book has so much Knowledge I wish it had follow up editions! FL Studio can be intimidating to people who are not that familiar with the software. This is the reason for me purchasing this book! I will go back through it to really get a better understanding. Thanks for a great book
