I was pleasantly surprised by this book! In the beginning, I was not totally immersed in the book, but it did not take long for me to start to think, “wow, this is actually really interesting.” I love mystery, crime, and thriller books, and I think this book did a good job intertwining all of those aspects. The author, Mark Stephen O’Neal, did a great job making this book easy and fun to read. I never felt bogged down with unnecessary details. Also, the fact that this book seemed to start out to revolve only simply around sports but then took an unexpected turn to mystery was very exciting. It was also something I have never really read about before, so the theme of this mystery book all together was unique and refreshing. The author definitely had a good, new take! Although the mystery itself was not anything too suspenseful or new, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading about the kidnapping and money schemes. Overall, this is a great book for any person looking for a good crime mystery!

Brock is a basketball player, and a good one at that. Although his team did not survive the playoffs, Brock was still offered an extension on his basketball contract. He travels to Chicago to spend time with his family- his stepdad and brother to whom he is close to. This is where things start picking up in the plot -his stepdad is kidnapped and the kidnappers want one million dollars for his return. Was the contract extension and the kidnapping timing a coincidence? I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'm not a huge basketball fan, but the story was very intriguing and kept me turning the pages. The writing was pleasantly surprising as well, and I'm looking forward to the second in the series.

I was pretty surprised when I opened this book to see it was only 90 pages considering the description of the book. But, the pace really kept up the whole way through with absolutely no lag time anywhere, which is probably better than having too many unnecessary scenes.It's a pretty good set up to the rest of the series. You get a little character development and the book ends with some intrigue as to what will happen next. It builds the whole time so you expect to find that there's more to the whole kidnapping than Brock originally knows and then finally learn at the end what it is. So, it leaves you interested in finding out what kind of trouble Brock and Malik will find themselves in with the next book and how quickly things will unravel for some characters. I did wish that there was a little more character development in this book. You barely geet to learn anything about Brock's father or brother or Malik, but hopefully that is gone into further in future books. It was nice to get some good insight into Brock's upbringing and to follow Naomi's story throughout and see them connect in the end. Very interested to see what could develop between Brock and Naomi. All in all, an intriguing and fast-paced jump start to a series with an ending that makes you want to dig into the next one. Very nicely done.

My oh my. This storyline is just begging for a Hollywood manuscript. I mean a young, good-looking sports superstar abruptly caught in the midst of a massively high profile American kidnapping? There’s no way this one CAN’T end up on a summer blockbuster list at some point in the near future.In all seriousness though, if you are a crime/thriller addict like I am and always on the lookout for talented new writers (like I am), then I bet my bottom dollar you’ll enjoy this quick and easy read. There’s a certain knack for excellent fictional thrillers that I can’t exactly put my finger on, but I’ll tell you that I’ve read plenty of duds over the years, and this one is no dud. At the end of the day it accomplishes exactly what I wanted it to - quality entertainment, an engaging read, and exposure to a new author that I’ll definitely be keeping my out on in the future. Highly recommended.

This book in the Brock Lane chronicles is a great first book. I haven’t heard of this author before, but the storyline that I thought was going to be more of a sports book took a turn into a great mystery. While Brock is dealing with his own personal life and trying to navigate his career, his life is quickly turned upside down by a kidnapping and demand. His sudden step into a grim reality is captivating and the quick change in pace and almost in genre is interesting and exciting.O’Neil has a style of writing that is clean and to the point, but doesn’t lack any detail or leave you wanting anything else. This was a fun read that makes me want to find out what is next for Brock and the career and family that he works so hard to protect. A great read for many different types of readers, as there is a little of everything, including a story of drive, perseverance, and faith.

The book is action-packed and you’ll be flipping through the pages quickly to find out if Lane can raise the money needed before it’s too late. If you enjoy suspenseful novels, definitely check this book out.

I read this book in just a few hours. I couldn’t put it down.I didn’t know much about the Spice Girls, but I enjoy Mel B. on America's Got Talent. Brutally Honest is just that. Some of her story was very unpleasant for me to read, but I plugged along. Never having been abused in the way she has been, and by so many men, it was difficult for me to understand why she kept falling for the same kind of abusive men. I did begin to understand how this happened to her, and I feel so much empathy for her and her daughters. I hope very much that she is now as strong as she says she is and will stay away from those types of men. I hope the drinking has stopped. I hope she continues to see Dr. Sophy until she is one hundred percent sure that she is cured of all of her addictions, including men. She’s only in her early forties. I think she’s still susceptible to falling for the same kind of guy. Be careful, Mel B!! I hope you make a ton if money with this book.

What a gut wrenching book. I cried during most of it. Melanie packs a he'll of a story but it's been a hell of a life. This is a woman I admired and thought she had everything and the best of life. Truth shall set you free. Being a abused wife myself, I know all the signs so reliving that through this book was incredibly hard and there were times I had to put it down and stop. But I am thankful that she had the courage to get this done and start her life over and be the mom her children deserve. My heart, prayers and love to put to a remarkable woman who got sucked into a terrifying experience and was able to recover and come away with her life and love. There is a special place in hell for abusers and I pray one day they all get what they deserve. May Melanie now have the life she and her children deserve. Book packs a wallup!

A heartbreaking, inspiring and raw memoir. This book will strike all of your emotions.The audiobook is narrated by Melanie, her daughter, mother, and third party voice talent that Melanie auditioned. Who narrates the book is not important. What’s important is the story it tells.

I wasn't a huge Spice Girls fan but I was somewhat familiar with her Spice Girls days because my little brother was a big fan. My familiarity with Mel was from her brief reality show and her time on AGT. I've always liked Mel's public persona as I've find her funny and affable. Initially, I had no plans to read the book but after hearing Mel B discuss it on TV I changed my mind.I'm glad I checked it out. Once I started the book I couldn't put it down. It only took me three days to finish it. I had no idea that Melanie's experienced so many trials and tribulations in her life. Parts of her story are hard to read but ultimately, I came away feeling relieved and proud that Mel finally had the strength to leave her ex-husband. She's a survivor in every sense of the word. I hope the next chapters in her life are filled with happiness and continued success in her career.I don't want to give anything away but the book will hold your attention even if you have just a passing interest in Mel's life. I do wish she'd talked more about her Spice Girls days but from her perspective I suppose she feels like she shared all that needed to be said. Much of the book talks about the last ten years of her life with her ex-husband and her struggle to survive his abuse. Those chapters she seems to "tell-all" but I'd say the rest of the book is measured and respectful. She's honest but doesn't share more than is really necessary. After all, she does have two young daughter's to protect. I enjoyed the book immensely.

I read tons of biographies and this one really got to me emotionally because I don't believe it's the end nor "happily ever after" for Melanie Brown and Family. Yes, it's brutally honest and I've never been in that kind of relationship because after one incident I would be gone, but that's me. With her, she seemed to want children to "fix" her problems and it seemed her life came first-her children had to follow her wherever they went, and they suffered just as much, probably more. I'm a firm believer to protect children as number 1 idea. I wasn't thrilled to read what happened to her during her choice relationships (except with Eddie Murphy-good guy) but NO, she didn't communicate with Murphy and figured I'll go back and get him...stubborn woman! Instead she ended up with men with MAJOR issues instead! Children again, suffering. If I had read, at the end, that she doesn't drink anymore, and in a program changing her life, cleaning up the past emotionally (not with riches, with emotions) then wow, but she still parties and that scares me. I pray for the children and I hope she decides to put them first. Wait till they are all over 18 years old, then look for a partner in life, great. But they are all still at risk, in my humble opinion which I know equals nothing herein. As for the book cover with her left hand exposed and no ring...what is she saying again? And that Stephen guy is someone who I would hate to even think exists in this world...but should be behind bars forever. NO, he owns a restaurant? WTF is that? I don't recommend this book to anyone unless I know they are going thru this and with a major drinking problem. I cried every night over the last few chapters for her pets and children, her father too. Read this if you like SCARY in your SPICE only!

Amazingly the best HARD BACK players guide I have ever seen of all of my video games. I am 73 y.o and an avidvideo game player, and I have waited 2 years for this, and it is here, and it is BEAUTIFUL with vividcolors and pictures and clear instructions. A thick & heavy book that will be handed down to myfamily heirloom. Quality & paper is top grade, something to be proud of. Yes, this is 5 Stars Plus +++++I highly recommend this book for any RDR2 fan...It is addicting and the most beautiful graphics I haveever seen in a game and this book shows you the way to increase your pleasure......ENJOY !!!

First of all, the print is small. I’m 58 and I use 275 magnification readers to paint military figures and other micro stuff these old eyes need help with. The font is so small I couldn’t read anything without an addition magnifying glass. Maybe it’s just me, but why in this day and age are we forced to read fine print smaller than the near invisible stuff on the bottom of a used car dealership’s finance contract.Secondly, the whole purpose for me to buy a book is to have access to the information when I know I’m not going to get a good signal for example, going to a mountainous region to absorb the peace and serenity of nature while unwinding. There’s so much information not in this guide. Sure, they touch base and say for example your horses tack can change the stats on the horse, but I couldn’t find any of the saddle, stirrup and blanket stats anywhere. What good is that if your away from your internet service and can’t plan, take notes for the things you would like in the game if they didn’t include it in the book. I’ve hunted for information about trains, fast travel etc and again, vague. It doesn’t say if your horse meets you there or do you have to find a stable. It doesn’t tell you how, or if fast travel is a one way trip. There’s no talk about any weapon calibers, the game includes it, but again we’re talking about being AFK. I’ve used bows on three star animals, perfect shot to the head, I skin the thing, thinking oh boy, I’m on my way to the dude that makes special outfits. I pick it up, it’s only two star. One head shot, no other damage and I get good after skinning, why? The book should expain penalties. I watched a video, they said if ya plug the thing full of holes, you’ll get a penalty, even after skinning the wound was above the cut of the skinning. The book is riddled with like just touching base but it leaves out so much. Heck, I’d pay more, or should I have too when the advertising says it’s a tell all. Sure, I expect to hear, well, we had to print the book and have it written before the end of the games design, or they’ll possibly change stats later which will render it useless. If that’s the case, why are some stats there? You get the drift of my meaning. I gave it three stars for paper quality, layout etc. there’s a ton of work that went into this book but it falls short in some aspects in my humble opinion.

I wasn't sure whether to order this book because part of the fun of playing a game is discovery and figuring out what is what. But this game in particular found me wondering what to do next in so many places. I searched the built-in Help system and got some answers, but they were often incomplete. There is a lot of free info online, but I didn't want to sort through it all and didn't want to week through hours of help videos. This is a HUGE game with a lot to discover and I didn't want to waste any more time being frustrated on how to accomplish a particular thing, or determine the best way of doing something. This book fills that need very well.This book is a reference and consists of 386 full-color illustrated pages. The 7 chapters include: 1)Primer 2)Missions 3)Exploration 4)Atlas 5)Weapons 6)Items 7)Extras.Each chapter has numerous sections or sub-chapters which are too many to list here.This book is LOADED with useful illustrations, charts and tables that visually describe each part of the game. Along the right column of each page is a "locator" which indicates the chapter and section that you are currently on.If you love the RDR franchise but have been frustrated with the game, then this book is for you. You can quickly lookup whatever is required to get you back on track enjoying the game. It's filled with tips, tricks and lots of detailed information that you can lookup quickly so you can focus more on having fun. In some ways it compensates for what the game should never have lacked in the first place. But I have found it a useful reference to get me back on track.

I got my book 3 days later than it was supposed to come, that's fine I had a lot of the game to play anyways lol. The hardcover book is t h i c c lol. Get it. very detailed stuff.

Yes it didn't arrive Friday when the game released and I didn't get it until today but other than that negative occurrence the guide itself covers everything in the game! Can also be useful for the trophy/achievement hunters by giving tips and making it known that some trophies/achievements are missable!

This guide is fantastic! It has everything necessary to get gold badges on story missions, it has locations of every collectible in the game, and it has good tools to get better at some of the side challenges like hunting, fishing, five finger filet, etc. It's an essential item for a completionist or trophy hunter. Would definitely recommend.

The content of this guide is great, but it seems many of the copies sent out have manufacturing defects. The pages of mine are all wavy and shrivelled at the top and bottom throughout the entire book, almost as if it got wet somehow. Very unfortunate as the book and content itself are really good. Wish that it didn’t arrive damaged :(

Just received my guide today and I couldn't be happier. Yes I didn't receive it on the day of the game release, but that is fine with me. Waiting 4 extra days is not a big deal (for me). The guide is jam packed with useful information, and I spent over 30 minutes reading all about the game before even playing. After reading how important paying attention to details in this game is, I am super happy I bought the guide. I would miss out on so many missions and events if I didn't have it. I recommend it.

For me, this book began slowly. But at about one-third of the way into the story, it began to pick up. It built layer upon layer until I wanted to just read the ending. But it was clear that if I did that, I wouldn't know enough to figure out what was happening. The author revealed a stunning conclusion and about blew my mind. Then, the story quietly tied up the rest of the loose ends and brought the story to a wonderful end. Mr Parshall is an excellent author. I've already read book 2 of this series. Now, I have to read the rest of the books in this series. I loved this book!

Craig Parshall will be on my list to read everything he writes. Enjoyed this book and ordered the rest of his books to put in our church library. Many of our members have read the series and other books by him and have the same opinion of his books. Very good.

What a find this was! I won't repeat the plot line like several others. Rather, I'll say that this first novel caused me to rush to my computer to buy all 4 that have been released and to pre-order the one releasing in January! Parshall does a fine job with characterization, creating 3-D likeable characters. Attorney Will Chambers struggles with internal and external forces to get his life and career back on track. We end up with a close study of the man plus an intriguing plot and some great courtroom dialog. I have now read all 4 of the Will Chambers books and can't wait for the next one. They have each been unique and exciting to read...enough action to keep you up late because you just have to find out what will happen. This author is a treasure. The added prize is the deep spirituality of his Christian message. There is something (and most likely everything) to delight all readers in this book and in all his books.

I loved this book! The story contains exciting action and suspense, courtroom drama and interpersonal relationships. It's all told from a Christian perspective, which is what I like best. I will definitely be reading more of Mr. Parshall's books.

I was bogged down with all the legal detail but in general found the book to be well written especially with such a complicated plot.

As a true John Grisham / James Scott Bell fan, I was hesitant in purchasing this book. I did not think it would be able to compare with my favorite authors. I must say, this book not only rivaled, but exceeded other novels from those authors. I could not put it down! I am beginning CUSTODY OF THE STATE now and I plan to take my time so that I may savour every page!Stop what you are doing and BUY this book now, right now!

I found myself staying up later than I should could not wait to see how it ended. I highly recommend this book to Christian's and anyone who has questions regarding the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Loved the descriptions of The Middle East and the hearts of the faithful witnesses that never gave up praying for Mr. Chambers.

This is a review of the physical quality of the book, not the content. The content is excellent, but sadly the quality of the book is awful. This is a major disappointment as the 3rd edition was very nice. This 4th edition is made of thin cheap paper that could easily be torn with a careless page turn. The picture print quality is very bad, extremely grainy. I have seriously seen better printing from 20 year old inkjets. I've attached some comparison pictures from the 3rd and 4th edition as well as some particularly bad examples from just the 4th so you can decide for yourself. Personally I'm returning my copy and will avoid CRC Press in the future.

The content of this series is top notch. If you want to learn anything about realtime graphics and rendering form basics to advanced topics, you can't go without one of these books.However, as other reviewers have noted, the 4th addition of Realtime Rendering is a joke in terms of print quality. After reading other reviews, I didn't think it would be that bad, but it literally does not compare to the 3rd edition I have sitting on my shelf. Really, it doesn't compare to ANY OTHER TECHNICAL BOOK I've bought in the last decade. Images are grainy and low resolution, color accuracy is poor, the TEXT IS NOT CLEAR (come on!), and the paper is so thin that just lightly turning pages can easily tear it. Compared to the previous edition which I've owned for years, I doubt this book will stand up to just a single read through. And when you put the two side by side and open up to similar pages, its just depressing.I mean, seriously, I have many other books by CRC Press and they're usually top quality. I don't know why this one is so astronomically different.Its unfortunate I have to give this book a 1 star review, I really have relied a lot on this series throughout my career as a professional software developer. But this book is absolutely not worth $89 + tax. If you want one of these, consider the 3rd edition. If you need the latest info, perhaps try the e version for half price. I may keep mine since I already have it and I'm reading through it. But at its current price and quality, I cannot recommend anyone else bother with this.

A book about graphics cannot have this poor paper quality and image printing. Terribly grainy and low resolution sometimes make it difficult to actually see what the image or diagram is trying to showcase. A disappointment.

Horrible print quality and very thin paper, the goldfish cover would be better than this generic star wars thing.It's a shame because this is the best book for realtime rendering. If the ebook has color images I rather buy it and print it myself.

I am puzzled as to why this book has received such negative reviews. Most of the disappointment has been directed at the print quality of the text. Some of the images are slightly lower resolution than what you may find elsewhere and the pages are thin, but the book is nearly 1200 pages and the image quality is perfectly fine. The text is clear and images serve their purpose. I have verified that I have received the first printing, so unless there were some major variations in the printing process, all I can say is that the dissatisfaction with the book is at least a little hyperbolic.If you are on the fence about buying this book because of the negative reviews, I would urge you to reconsider. This is the book to buy if you are looking for an all-in-one source to learn about real-time graphics. If you are a game developer, software engineer, or just looking to learn more about this subject, you need to buy this book. It's the foundational text of the field. This edition in particular is very up-to-date, with huge additions over the previous edition including several chapters on real-time ray-tracing, volumetric rendering, and modern GPU architecture.If you were like me and were uncertain about the book because of the print quality, I can say for myself that I have found these claims to be greatly exaggerated.

I'd love to own this book because the content looks amazing. But I am about to return my second copy after returning the first.Both books I've received have had pages just fall out. The pages seems like they're not even bound. The attached picture depicts the quality of the first book received. I opened to the physically based shading section only to have the page slide out. It seems like every 15 pages or so has a loose page that will fall out. I suspect the entire inventory of books have this issue.Do yourself a favor, don't bother buying a hard copy of the 4th edition. If you've already ordered a copy, check around page 301 for loose pages.

The other reviews are not exagerating. The paper is so thin I could tear it by turning the pages if I'm not careful. The images are grainy as if they had been printed with a cheap inkjet printer. The book is still useable but I'm very concerned about its durability even though I got the hardcover version.

A fun read. Similar in enjoyment for me to Sarah Dry's 'The Newton Papers'. If you are an author and you want an interesting and compelling subject, you can't go wrong picking Sir Isaac Newton as your locus and focus.This book probably has one of the best summaries of Sir Isaac (the man) as anyone who has attempted a like project. In fact, Professor Levenson does a really nice job of making Sir Isaac a human being.Plus, the story, the drama, the intrigue, and the skullduggery itself is worthy of a mini-series on HBO. And to think the whole time you are reading this book, you know that the man who figured out gravity, probably, on a few occasions, sat near The Rack while interrogating Coyners and Clippers. Put that on HBO! This book has all the elements of great drama. More importantly and significantly is that it is true. True. True. Documented. Absolute. It really happened. We are all the current beneficiaries.Great writing, (which might explain the authors position as a writing professor at MIT), on a better than great subject.... and a story befitting Sir Isaac, wonderfully told.

Levenson does a better job of biographing Newton than many other authors, despite his limiting the scope of his story to Newton's involvement with the Royal Mint and his battle with the infamous counterfeiter, William Chaloner.It simply boggles the mind the information that continues to be uncovered about Newton's life. Not only a landed farmboy, a child prodigy, a professor of mathematics, a revolutionary mathematician and physicist and the head of the Royal Society, Newton continued on to be many other things. He spent years unsuccessfully investigating alchemy, an enterprise doomed to failure without the as-yet undiscovered knowledge of atomic physics. He spent decades investigating the history of the Bible, coming to various unorthodox (and unsupportable) conclusions. And here, we see that his time as the head of the Royal Mint was nothing short of daring.Levenson's book begins slowly enough, with several chapters of background covering Newton's earlier, scientific life, before progressing to the essence of the tale. Newton was not merely 'master of the Mint'. He was brought into the job at a time when England was facing a financial crisis of epic proportions, brought on by a changing banking landscape, inadequate economic policies, an expensively useless war and rife counterfeting of its increasingly debased currency - all of which the government and the Mint were inadequately equipped to handle.Enter Newton, who immediately sets about bringing his meticulous scientific methods to bear on the Mint's policies and production efficiency. He not only turns around the fortunes of England, he delves into the underworld to hamstring and capture the counterfeiters crippling England's coinage. He plays the role of police officer and detective, takes criminals into custody, runs networks of informers, questions witnesses, plants spies in gaols, conducts interrogations and compiles evidence for use by prosecuting barristers. His life in pursuit of William Chaloner moves like a real-life CSI episode, at a time when England scarcely had any kind of professional police force, and years before any of these practices would become standardised law enforcement procedures.Levenson's work is well-written and extremely well-referenced. It had me on the edge of my seat. A more gripping description of a scientific figure, I am yet to encounter.

I'm interested in science but read mainly fast-moving thrillers. The name Newton means Apple to me - and that's a turn-off. I heard Newton and the Counterfeiter reviewed on Australian Radio National and an interview with author Thomas Levenson, who is (as we say) a fair dinkum boffin. Temptation, my Kindle, was right at hand so I keyed in Newton and Counterfeiter and up came the book; to my surprise at a reasonable price. Still listening, I hit the "buy" and had it before the interview was over. It's a much shorter book than the specs say. About a third is tied up in references, which I don't have to read. But they assure me the author is genuine and the story is true. In a way, it shows the traditional scientific "peers" have sprinkled it with approved wisdom. The story (I'm not giving much away) is that the revered English physicist was bored by Cambridge and needed a good living. So he tapped the patronage chain and (eventually) landed the job of Master of the Royal Mint. Counterfeiting was so rife coins weren't accepted and "notes" were in their infancy. The King couldn't pay his soldiers and sailors. Newton tangled with an arch-villain who targeted the Master and the Mint. Newton won and the villain was hanged. No mercy in the 18th Century. Most books approach Newton with (sorry!) gravity. Levenson humanises him and brings the period to life. Hence five stars. And if you happen to be a boffin all those references are the icing on a tasty cake. - John Stackhouse
