Review

“[Meadows] has compiled compelling stories about people who faced and ultimately surmounted daunting medical challenges. . . . The families’ ventures into a realm that some would call quackery were typically inspired by love, desperation and hope, and were fueled by irrepressible grit and determination to find solutions to debilitating health problems that defied the best that conventional medicine could offer. Their stories left me in awe of their persistence against formidable odds.”—The New York Times“The stories featured in this book are really remarkable—a child making a full recovery from a painful illness, a woman confined to a wheelchair walking again—and all because they wouldn’t stop looking for answers.”—Good Morning America    “This is a book of hope. . . . An amazing book for everyone.”—Fox & Friends “At the age of three, the author’s son Shepherd was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. When Western medicine didn’t help, Meadows, a journalist, found a special diet—no gluten, no dairy—that did. For this book she found other families who, as she writes, had similarly explored ‘the wilds of unfinished science.’”—Newsday“[Meadows’s] purpose is to ‘suggest potential targets for new research,’ and she does so with writing that’s compelling and fair. . . . This is a terrific book for those who need encouragement to take control of their diagnoses, and for their physicians and families.”—Publishers Weekly “Throughout these tales, a common attitude binds people together: hope. . . . What cannot be refuted are the will power, perseverance, and hopefulness of the patients and families profiled here.”—Booklist “Can eating the right food play a major role in healing medical problems? . . . Encouraging, honest information and real-life cases that show the role food can play in healing the body.”—Kirkus Reviews “[The Other Side of Impossible] introduces readers to courageous patients, parents seeking help for their children, and scientists searching for cures and explanations. . . . The author highlights the importance of persistence, hope, and research when facing difficult medical situations.”—Library Journal“In this affecting and illuminating book, Susannah Meadows emerges as the kind of sound, sensible, and invaluable friend you want by your side when medical disaster strikes. She brings a strong grasp of science, a writerly sensibility, and a good heart to the difficult subject of the present and future of healthcare. If you love someone, read The Other Side of Impossible.”—Jon Meacham “I laughed out loud more than once, choked up more than twice, and generally marveled at the lovely humanity and sharp mind at work. This extremely useful guide to never giving up is journalism at its most responsible, intelligent, and compassionate.”—Kelly Corrigan “The Other Side of Impossible is an amazing book—insightful, compassionate, and quite possibly life-changing.”—Curtis Sittenfeld

As a physician also involved in clinical research and pharmaceutical development, I found this to be an accurate report of case studies in which dietary alterations helped resolve symptoms of diseases for which allopathic methods had failed. I also appreciate the scrupulous scientific referencing of all past research relevant to each case history. I very strongly recommend that physicians read this book and become aware of these alternative methods as a means of referring those patients whose diseases prove resistant to our methods. We are just beginning to learn about "restoring" the body to itself. This book describes how it can be done, and in its way is a groundbreaking reference work.

The other side of impossible is a book written by Susannah Meadows. However, it's also a real place. And a Holy ground you too, can stand on. One day, maybe as soon as tomorrow, you can stand here too, on the other side. And be able to look back and say, "because I believed in absolute truth and believed beyond all doubt, the solution to my loved one's pain was here. I never gave up Hope and we are really here, standing on the other side of impossible." Once your here, it's the other side that will seem surreal to you. The days, months, years and dollars you spent within a faulty healthcare system will be the place most impossible for you to ever return too.Ordinary people solve these problems today, more than we know. And Susannah Meadows finally shines the light on a hand full of these wonderfully, stubborn people. I, myself through years of research and DNA testing have solved major autoimmune issues within my family. No more biologics and pain here, on the other side of impossible. I'm similar to the people in Susannah Meadow's book in one major way. I'm the little engine that could. And I did!I hope Ms. Meadows will follow up with a second book based on LDN, also know as Lodonal and low dose naltrexone. I highly recommend, "The Other Side Of Impossible."

Susannah Meadows is an incredibly talented writer and someone who clearly believes in science and modern medicine, but who has also witnessed first-hand the fact that doctors don’t always have all the answers. This book is a beautifully written account of personal triumphs over medical challenges, including the story of Meadows’ own son’s recovery from juvenile arthritis. It will hopefully inspire many others to keep pursuing answers and never give up.

I am always reading, reading, reading on the potential for optimizing human health through nutrition, natural healing, energy medicine and more. I have been witness to amazing recoveries through the use of nutrition, whole food, gut healing, energy healing and more. Having said that, this book was still a breath of fresh air. Fresh air that all deserve to see, feel and breathe. This book, written by a journalist, is full of investigative, inquisitive and insightful journalism but also has the compassion of her own son's life story tied in. I believe that the author's unique personal experience coupled with her skill as a journalist allowed her the ability and patience to take on this task of multi-year information gathering............ so as to produce a fine book aptly titled, "The Other Side of Impossible."The other side of impossible SO needed today, as so many are living on the side of impossible....facing what looks like impossible health situations.....whether dealing for food sensitivities, allergies, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autoimmune diseases, and so much more. This is a must read for anyone seeking .... ' what could possibly be on the other side of this impossible health situation that I am dealing with.' Cheers to Susannah for her fortitude and perseverance to help her son, and cheers to her for taking the time and effort to articulate the stories of several other AMAZING healing journeys. You are a gift of a journalist. You have positively and truly paid it forward.

This book reminds us that we do not have all the answers to our medical issues. There is a definite need to understand the psychological issues that may be involved. In order to do so, one must find the right kind of expert who has a talent with dealing these matters. The book identifies one such practitioner who is now booked two years out. If you have someone who is chronically ill, this book is worth reading to get some ideas on how to help them.

I enjoyed the book very much. I was glad to find someone who believes it is better to find the solution to the health problem, if possible, rather than take a prescription with possible side effects that does not cure but only treats the symptoms. There were seven lives with a different problem, including the author's own son, that she wrote about in this book. The author says, at the start, that this may not be for everybody and is not putting down doctors. She used them herself but if you can get to the root of the problem, it is worth it to take the time to give it a try; like eliminating certain foods from your diet. Parts of the book were not easy for me to understand but I understood enough.

Excellent! A must read. Inspired to be more alert and careful. Author is realistic and funny too.

My daughter has a chronic illness. Enjoyed reading about successes of others through focusing on nutrition and exercise. Hope my daughter picks up this book and gains a possible new way to look at her health issues.
