He has been a member of the Samba development Team since 1998 and his involvement with Unix systems and network administration of UNIX began in 1995. Jerry currently works for HP, working on embedded printing appliances. Having published articles with various web-based magazines, he teaches instructional courses as a consultant for several companies and conferences.Jay Ts is a system administrator and programmer with many years of experience working with several versions of Unix and other operating systems. Nowadays he works as an independent consultant out of his home in Sedona, Arizona.Robert Eckstein has worked with Java since its first release. I was a bit unsure whether I should get a book that is 10 years a old in an industry that changes almost on a daily basis. The book provides a wealth of information.I do hope that an update for Samba 4 will be released at some point. I will most likely but the updated version as well.

I came to this book because my Samba share does not work when I joined a new company and have a new Ubuntu box, eventually I decided it's a time to learn what's going on under-hood since there is no local IT support, I followed chapter 12 to debug the issue, and gained much deeper understanding of n/w overall, it turned out the culprit is the firewall, wish the future edition add introduction of UFW tool for firewall configuration.
I had ordered this book for a one day delivery on wednesday evening and the shipping showed me that I would get the book by Friday. The book DID NOT ARRIVE ON FRIDAY but came in rather saturday and I was still charged a one day shipping. I dont want to pay for the one day shipping. Please refund my credit card.thanksDivya
I was able to configure a samba server that met all my needs after reading only 4 chapters of this book.I am not an expert but at no time at all did I feel like this book is outdated. Mine, 3rd edition, was focused on samba 3.0.22 -- correct release being 3.0.25.
This is a very good guide. It brings together information scattered over the net and provides good a deep explanation for many topics that samba administrator need to know.
