A pleasure to read, both for the inspiration coming from reading about people being very successful being idealistic, and from learning about the history of the Desktop Publishing revolution.

Great!!

The only real flaw in this book is I want more. Adobe's story is fascinating, and I could probably read a detailed history of each product without being bored. (And I would have loved to have found out why Adobe never made an Illustrator 5 or 6 for the PC).

Anyone who uses a computer to design graphics, create printed documents, edit Web graphics, make movies and animations, or just type a letter should read this book.While most people recognize the contributions Apple and Microsoft made to computers, few realize how much Adobe was right in there with those other companies.This book tells that story--and does so with humor, behind-the-scenes gossip, and inside information. What were the "Font wars" of 1989? What were Adobe's original plans for Photoshop? What was the original purpose for the Acrobat PDF format?Even better the quotes from industry greats. What did Steve Jobs think the first time he saw PostScript added to a printer? How did designers such as Roger Black and Louis Fishauf feel about products such as Illustrator and Photoshop?The book is filled with tons of candid photos of those early days. You'll gasp as you see the much-younger versions of today's famous speakers and industry giants. My favorite is the extremely young Steve Jobs (in a tie and jacket!) at the debut of the PostScript LaserWriter.The author must have been given quite a bit of leeway with the writing because she also describes those times Adobe didn't get it exactly right. There's always one more little tidbit to laugh or smile over.

I got the book in the morning and started reading right away, skipped lunch and finished. Short read you might say... not at all; the text and the images are excellent and the book reads like a novel (reason why I skipped lunch). What a story!It answered many questions that came up in my 10+ years of experience as a graphic design professional. Why Adobe this and how Adobe that.The great thing about the book that it made me re-live my experiences; the advent of the mac and the LaserWriter, early releases of the software (it is quite touching to see pictures of the first, say, Illustrator), the successes and the failure the company went through. Those of us (graphic designers) who have pasted photostated type on the blue outline grid by hand will relate.The book is about what and how things happened to allow us (graphic designers) to work the way we do today; it is, however, also about how Adobe changed the publishing world and global communication altogether.Thumbs up on this one. Thank you Pamela Pfiffner for a great piece of research and writing. Thank you Adobe for the perseverance in bringing it all together towards the age of Network Publishing.

Cathy Glass spins another heart-wrenching tale in "I Miss Mummy." Torn from her grandparents' arms after they allowed their granddaughter to visit with her drug addicted mother, authorities place the child with Cathy. I've read a number of Ms. Glass' books and this one got to me more than some of the others. A child who was clearly loved and cherished taken from those who love her, then thrown into a very confusing system, is the victim here. To think that someone in government bureaucracy has the authority to decide that grandparents are too old to raise a child is maddening. Thankfully, this one had a good outcome. I hope the British system takes a clear look at their policies as in the U.S., grandparents are raising grandchildren all the time. I thought this one meandered a bit too much and some parts could have been left out, but overall, another winner from Cathy Glass.

A sweet, obviously well cared-for little girl winds up in protective care as an emergency. The child's mother is reported to have a drug problem and the maternal grandparents are ruled out because they will be 70 by the time the child nears adulthood. Her father and his wife are the default option. The true account is written by the English foster carer.This is the second or third book I have read by this author, so I obviously like her and recommend the book. Adapting to the never-ending demands of a system that seems at times designed for its own benefits, the fosterers and child struggle along. It is comforting to know that there are warm caring people, who are well trained to care for children in crisis--at least in the British Isles. It is less comforting to see the almost haphazard way social workers follow cases.

I don't often think of what happens to children who get lost in our social services system--because they are lost and I am not.This is a terrifying story of what can happen to a family despite the efforts of all too few sensible and good hearted carers lost in a sea of paper and statistics. Although I could not call this a happy ending, this child fared better than most. I have great admiration for the author. She is a foster mother writing stories from her care notes of many years. I bought several books, which offer a very fair and even discussion of her view of the social services and family care systems of our country--its flaws and benefits. I do not know how this mother can keep so much love in her heart while daily confronted by both cruelty and indifference. I like to see this story, and others, as a call to reform in education and laws. I think that it is intended rather as a call to hope, the power of love, and a renewal of human kindness within us all.

This is an English author who is a care giver in the foster system of England. This is a true story about "Alice" who has a mentally ill mother and has gone to live with her grandparents. A Social Worker decides they are too old to care for Alice. They discover a dad and girlfriend who have not been in Alice's lives at all and decide after a time of visitations with supervision that Alice can be sent to live with them. In the meantime she is in foster care. The book shows the dedication and flaws in the system and how a child can get lost having bad results on the child's life. You will want to see what happens to Alice. The author has written several books about cases she has had in the past.

This is the 4th book that I've read written by Cathy Glass and yet I think this is the best book by far in terms of "suspense". The arrangements of the story have twists after twists to one point I felt that I couldn't handle it. Cathy Glass is able to deliver the story and make the readers feel for the main character in the story, even she is a little girl. The one thing I don't like about this book is other miscellaneous stuff it has toward the end, I had to skip about 10% of the final story. Overall, it's a good read and I'd recommend it to other readers.

This is a very well written story of a traumatized child of a dysfunctional mother. However, Alice is resilient and after being placed in a loving foster home, she begins to heal. This story rings true and fortunately, ends well, even with the initial challenge of the loss of all that she had held dear. I loved it and could sympathize totally with all the characters in this story based on true events.

I gave this book a 5 star rating because, it was a well written storyline. Cathy knew early on that Alice should not be in social service care and her case workers came to realize that too. I fell in love with Alice myself. This is a case where Social Services failed Alice and her family in so many ways. Thankfully it worked out well in the end with Alice being placed back with her family. I love happy endings. I would recommend this book!!

Once you started to read this book it was very hard to put it down. Some of the things that happened to her was unbelievable. The reason she was taken from her mother and grandparents should have never happened. It was only because of the father's lies. She had to live in foster care for a year. You never realize that this happened. Social workers are not always right. They were the reason everything happened. Don' always trust the system to work for you.

Ive been through a few different Elixir books now and this is the first that really captured my attention and kept me focused the entire time. I'm only about halfway through so far but I've been working through each of the exercises and have been learning a lot more (most due to the hands on nature of the exercises presented throughout each chapter). Definitely recommend if you're looking to get into Elixir and/or Functional Programming (in general).

I was not able to read this linearly, due to the difficulty of the topic and my own limitations, however, I came back to it several months later and read Chapters 6, Modules and Functions, Chapter 7, Lists and Recursion, and Chapter 13, Organizing a Project. This gave me enough context to go back and study the syntax here and there, and plough through Part 2, which is mainly about leveraging the OTP, a framework of abstraction that gives Elixir applications a real edge over more traditional Object Oriented applications. I'm really happy I came back to this book, it is written wonderfully and I highly recommend it.

Excellent book, very approachable, good writing style. Not pedantic and boring like a lot of literature in its class.

Great book! Provided a solid intro to Elixir and it's a reference to go back to to read up when the official documentation doesn't have enough context.

Good, easy to follow book. Take your time with each chapter, understand the concepts and work the examples. The key is to fully understand each chapter before moving on to the next.

This book offered a no-frills, all-body workout that could be incorporated into a workout routine. I was looking for new poses, so I gave this book a try. The book turned out to be very helpful. There were many postures I had never tried before, such as Squat Hold or Cat-Cow. For the ones I did know, this book provided greater detail which helped me gain greater understanding of how to move my body. The sequencing section provides ready-made sequences for quick use.Although billed as a book for yoga practitioners of all ages, I believe this book would work best for someone (man or woman) who has already done some yoga, but wants to a tougher workout. The poses and sequences are strenuous enough to compete with any other kind of workout you can do.

I didn't know Karim Abdul Jabbar was a yoga fun!!! For me this guy was always a legend and I'll take his word! I personally think yoga makes your bones, muscles more durable over time that's why this guy managed to play 20 NBA seasons! Other don't even make 5! I had watched a few youtube videos with some poses but this books is short and concise, puts everything into the right place. The pictures are of good quality and that's helpful to understand the poses. I really enjoyed it. It just convinced me that I should be consistent with my yoga. It's definitely worth it! Thanks a lot for great advice, Angelo.

I’ve always wanted to start a yoga course, but I was intimidated by being the only man in a studio full of women! Through the use of these customized poses this beginner’s guide makes yoga possible for everybody. The lessons are clear and very easy to follow, because there are many pictures and simple explanations. I think that for a beginner, it is essential to have some basic knowledge about yoga before practicing it and this book was a great start for me. I hope that I will soon be able to move to the next level.

I've been trying yoga for a while now and it relaxed my body and mind. It is very effective to eliminate stress and regain strenght of your body and mind. I've been reading a lot of yoga books for men and women and it is just the same. The main purpose of doing yoga is to be m ore inclined to your inner self and be more mindful.

Very understandable text explanation of various movements, with accompanying illustrations. The text is very good at explaining the basics. A good, systematic introduction.

Fine, but not a lot here. If you're trying to keep up with a instructor, odds are half of what the instructor is showing you won't be in this short book.

A weak read, more like a pamphlet than a book, but it will get you started.

Doesn't have very many exercizes to do. Very disappointed.
