Easter isn't about candy and my kid didn't buy it when I was telling him this- but the good ol' Bernstein Bears taught him that Easter is about the fact that JESUS IS ALIVE. When I was trying to explain it myself, I was focusing too much on the death and crucifixion. This book helps young kids focus on the resurrection- what Easter is truly about. I'd repurchase this book 100 times over. We read it every morning and every night just before bed.

Super cute book and we love the Berenstain bears. My only complaint is that the end of the book doesn't tie in the plan of salvation with the resurrection. It just kind of leaves you hanging by saying something to the effect of "it just means that on Easter morning after you get your Easter baskets and candy, you will come to church and learn more about Jesus". I had to improvise the ending and add how Easter is really all about celebrating the resurrection of Jesus (when Jesus came back to life after dying on the cross) and how it proves He is God and if we believe in Him with all our heart and repent of our sins He will save us and bring us to heaven someday with Him. Candy, gift-giving and Easter baskets are just a small part of the celebration (just like at Christmas how we give gifts in honor of celebrating the birth of our Savior).

So I was looking for a good Easter story to read to my children. This book was more for K who is 9 rather than A who is 3.I didn't realize that the Berenstain books had some religion in them, I grew up reading these books and have never seen this in a story before. That did not turn me away from it as I wanted K to learn what Easter was really about but in a way that he would understand. This was perfect for that because Easter is just not about candy it is about Jesus and him raising from the dead three days later. This book did a wonderful job with describing the meaning of Easter and K had a few questions but not too many.Now it says there is a sticker set with this book I bought the ebook and there was no sticker set included so do not expect that with the ebook but more for the paperback.Now if you are not big into religion then this book will not be for you, if you are introducing your child/ren or are big into religion and want something read this will be good for you.K's questions and answers.Did you like the story? "Yes I did"Did you understand the story being told? "Yes it was about Jesus and not having candy."Would you read this book again? "Yes only at Easter."Would you recommend this book to your friends? "I think my friends would like this because they can learn about Jesus."

This is a nice Easter book for children. The only thing that kind of surprised me was the story of Easter and the other related characters including Jesus are all portrayed by bears. Usually in children's books I have found that Jesus and the related characters to his story are human, no matter the usual characters to a particular themed book.

Perfect to tell the story of Easter!

Brother, Sister and Honey Bear are dreaming/thinking/focused on all the different types of Easter candy even in Sunday school. When 'challenged' by the teacher to tell the rest of the class what else Easter is about there is a lot of head scratching! All they come up with are the words, "Bible Stuff"! It's time to learn some more! First step is to go to the class next door to watch the play The Easter Story.Yes, this book is Christian based providing the true account of the first Easter when Jesus died on the cross and rose again. Yes, it is scans of the original paperback book so five of the pages have double text showing the original text in the picture along with the separate, readable text. This book is VERY readable on the Kindle as the text has been typed in separately from the images. I'm just guessing that some of the original picture book texts could not be cropped enough so had to be left in.At the end of the book there are some activities and questions. Great book for those who enjoy the Berenstain Bears and want their children to grasp the true meaning of Easter. Thanks, Liz

PERFECT book for our kiddos. Talks about both the real meaning of easter, as well as the candy aspect of it. We used this to help us tell the story and bridge the gap with our 4 year old. very happy with this purchase.

I was looking for a book that would help explain the reason we celebrate Easter, and this was perfect. It was not overly detailed ( such as children's Bible story books), many that I looked at went into details of the betrayal, last supper , and crucifixion, which would be to have for my Kinder age child. This is a good intro before getting into those topics with them.

It's not the most exhaustive dictionary there is but it does have many rhymes in it. It has been of help at times, although a simple google search usually provides more help.

BOOK IS EXCELLENT, HAVE PREVIOUS EDITIONS, AND USE THEM ALOT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO OTHERS AS WELL

I write sonnets, villanelles and song lyrics and, before I bought this book, I thought somehow that it was cheating to use rhymes that didn't come out of my own head. Well, phooey to that! Yes, I still do make a list of rhyming words first, but then I turn to this dictionary and - wow - the possiblities just open up!Some of the reviewers caution that you have to read the instructions/introductions first in order to figure out how this book works. Well, I plunged right in; as a matter of fact, when I later read the "how to's," their terminology confused and intimidated me. Just open it up and start messing around. That's what art is all about, anyhow.I love how the sections of rhyming words are arranged so that the one-syllable words come first, followed by the longer words. Many of the words were entirely unfamiliar to me and I was glad to have a regular ol' dictionary by my side. (I don't plan on using many of those arcane words, but those of us who love language always get a kick out a new word, eh?)Some reviewers noted that some words are missing. But please don't get your knickers in a knot over that; there are more than enough rhyming words in here to get you past the jump-start phase. And if you, as I do, generate your own word list beforehand, you will catch anything that's missing (or you will continue on with your life in blissful ignorance). Any reference volume is fallible; I say if you see something missing, please write the publisher so the oversight can be corrected.In short, a fun, fat and inspiring book. I am glad I decided to "cheat"!

I bought this compact handy little reference because I needed a rhyming dictionary. The price was right (inexpensive). Note that the words are drawn from Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition. It is crucial to use this book along with a standard dictionary. It is absolutely essential to read the preface to the book to understand how to use it and see if it is easy to use for a potential buyer of this book. This book has been useful to me but I have two issues with it: rhyming words are listed according to most common end-of-word spelling but also according to how it is pronounced (so, therefore, people in different parts of the country may say the same word differently). A word may rhyme with another word if you come from New York perhaps but not if you're from Texas, let's say. There are references after rhyming word lists to see other lists where a word may have more than one standard pronunciation and these variants often produce alternate rhyming sounds. Some words may appear on more than one list and not every word on a list will rhyme for every person (as the preface indicates). Also, it's useful as a potential user of this book to be famiiar with diacritical marks (those marks that indicate how to say the word (- for example, long or short vowel sound). If you are unfamiliar with diacritical marks or need a refresher, or you are uncomfortable with lots of cross-references, you may find this book a bit cumbersome to use at first until you get the hang of the layout. All of the words are gathered and arranged by their rhyming sounds. The main entries are arranged according to the way the rhyming sound is most commonly spelled represented by bold type face at the beginning of the main entries. Alternate spellings of the rhyming sounds are cross-referenced and the reference directs the user to the appropriate main entry. The entries for a rhyming sound are arranged alphabetically in a single sequence whether a main or alternate spelling, one-,two- or three-syllable word. A certain amount of linguistic knowledge is useful to enable the user to easily make use of the book - such as inflected and uninflected word forms, derived forms, and parts of speech. Not every word is included. Sometimes there are references to speech parts such as "present participles of words...". In such a case, it helps to know what a "present participle" is, for example.

A fun and informative reference book for everyone in your family to use. I had no idea a book like this even existed until Amazon.com recommended this book to me after I had purchased other reference books from their internet store. I thought this was only going to be used from time to time when someone needed to write a poem for school or to be silly but that certainly isn't true at all. Since purchasing this book I know I have used this book several times for writing a serious love letter to my loving wife to writing something funny in emails to friends. I have found this reference book more handy than I first thought and I am very pleased to have this book in my private library. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who has children, anyone who loves to write, anyone who enjoys surprising their significant-other with a special poem, anyone who enjoys writing music or anyone who has a silly heart who enjoys writing for the sake of writing !!!

A Silken Thread is a historical fiction that takes place in 1895 in Atlanta during the International Cotton Exposition. Eighteen year old Laurel Miller has been told by her older siblings that she must stay home and be responsible for taking care of their mother in her old age. But Laurel wants something more and gets a job at the Exposition as a silk weaver to hopefully meet a wealthy man so that she can have a family and take care of her mother too. Langdon Rochester has been told by his father that he must settle down and get married or else he will loose his inheritance. He goes to the Exposition to "work" at his father's booth and try to find a lady to marry that will please his mother but still allow him to live his life the way he wants to.Willie Sharp takes a job as a security guard at the Exposition in order to pay for his father to go to a hospital to recover from a stroke. His best friend is a black man named Quincy who also gets a job at the Exposition. Quincy and Willie have been best friends their whole lives and never considered the differences in their races until the Exposition. The Civil War had taken place around 30 years before, and tensions were still running high. Trouble comes to the Women's Building at the Exposition and Willie and Quincy have to deal with issues in their friendship they've never had to before.One of the reasons that I love Kim Vogel Sawyer's books so much is because you can tell when reading her books that she puts a lot of time and effort into her research to make it authentic. When you are reading her books, you will feel as though you are transported back in time and a part of the story you are reading. The characters are amazing. Even the minor characters are real and believable and are an important part of the story. The challenges and struggles they face are things that we can relate to. In A Silken Thread, Ms. Sawyer tackles the difficult topic of racism, and it is done very well ,with grace and dignity. There is a romantic element to the story that I loved and appreciate that Kim Vogel Sawyer's books are not overly romantic. You do not have to worry about any inappropriate content. As always Ms. Sawyer weaves elements of faith throughout the book and we learn so much about trusting in God, seeking His will, the importance of doing the right thing even when it is hard, and that anything, even a new suit bought for the wrong reason, can bring about good in someone's life.Even though I loved the main characters in this book, one of my favorite characters was Mr. Rochester, Langdon's father. He is a very wealthy man but he wants his son to work hard and tries to teach him the importance of good character. Willie is just a factory worker but he knows him and trusts him and stands up for him even when others including his own son gave reason to doubt him.He has good reason to be very angry with his son but instead forgives and tells him he is proud of the good thing he has done. It reminded me of the love our Heavenly Father has for us.A Silken Thread taught me many things I didn't know or really think about during this time in history. As a physician also involved in clinical research and pharmaceutical development, I found this to be an accurate report of case studies in which dietary alterations helped resolve symptoms of diseases for which allopathic methods had failed. I also appreciate the scrupulous scientific referencing of all past research relevant to each case history. I very strongly recommend that physicians read this book and become aware of these alternative methods as a means of referring those patients whose diseases prove resistant to our methods. We are just beginning to learn about "restoring" the body to itself. This book describes how it can be done, and in its way is a groundbreaking reference work.

I have been witness to amazing recoveries through the use of nutrition, whole food, gut healing, energy healing and more. Having said that, this book was still a breath of fresh air. Fresh air that all deserve to see, feel and breathe. This book, written by a journalist, is full of investigative, inquisitive and insightful journalism but also has the compassion of her own son's life story tied in. This book reminds us that we do not have all the answers to our medical issues. There is a definite need to understand the psychological issues that may be involved. In order to do so, one must find the right kind of expert who has a talent with dealing these matters. The book identifies one such practitioner who is now booked two years out. If you have someone who is chronically ill, this book is worth reading to get some ideas on how to help them.

I enjoyed the book very much. I was glad to find someone who believes it is better to find the solution to the health problem, if possible, rather than take a prescription with possible side effects that does not cure but only treats the symptoms. There were seven lives with a different problem, including the author's own son, that she wrote about in this book. The author says, at the start, that this may not be for everybody and is not putting down doctors. She used them herself but if you can get to the root of the problem, it is worth it to take the time to give it a try; like eliminating certain foods from your diet. Parts of the book were not easy for me to understand but I understood enough.

Excellent! A must read. Inspired to be more alert and careful. Author is realistic and funny too.

My daughter has a chronic illness. Enjoyed reading about successes of others through focusing on nutrition and exercise. Hope my daughter picks up this book and gains a possible new way to look at her health issues.

This book has great ideas for building robots, but lacks instructions. I bought it for my 5 year old son (who is very familiar with LEGO instructions and can follow them easily) and he was very disappointed that not all robots had instructions. There is no point of showcasing all those great robots without showing how to build them.

Great book, full of really cool ideas. I just wish there were a few more step-by-step instructions.

My 6 year old son is a lego fanatic and doens't really need help with "ideas" as many of the lego books out there provide. What he needs is some help figuring out HOW to make his ideas happen. This book does just that. It helps him think outside the box and create things that look different from traditional lego contruction - Kenney uses lego pieces differntly than the lego manufacturers do. We have all his books and they are regularly open on the lego table helping to inspire my son to create new and interesting things. Thanks Sean Kenney!

These books have mostly images of lego figurines. There are very few actual walk through guides on how to build them. If they do have a guide it isn't the big robot they show but usually very small ones. Wishing I could find a book that actually shows you different ways to use your legos to build cool robots.

Another book with cools ideas that can done only with lots of special pieces, not with the regular ones that everybody have.

Tried to build a robot with my Grandson using this book. Frustrating. Many of his creations rely on hard to find round or right angled Lego pieces. How about some directions for squares and rectangles? Wish we hadn't bought it.

IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE SOME DIFFERENT TYPES OF INSPIRATION AROUND FOR MY SON WHEN HE'S LEGO'ING. THIS BOOK IS PERFECT BECAUSE THE ROBOTS ARE CHALLENGING ENOUGH BUT NOT SO HARD THAT LEGO PIECES HAVE TO BE PAINTED OR MANIPULATED IN ORDER TO REPLICATE WHAT'S IN THE BOOK. GREAT BOOK AT A REL GREAT PRICE!

My grandson has aspburgers and it takes something to hold his attention. He likes putting things together but no imagination. He follows directions well but can't come up with an idea on his own. He loved this.
